I knew someone was going to say something like, "Get good with the camra scrub" or something like that. The Camra placment is a design flaw and I'd be cool with it if it wasn't for the turrnet always trying to right itself when i don't want it to. F skill that crap is annoying, tanks don't have to deal with that crap not really. With the turrent like this a pilot hase to not only aim, worry about running his tail end into something, shoot wich causes the redical to jump, not only that but the blast from the turrent can cause the dropship to shift because of the force of the turrent.
I'm glad you knew someone was going to say you aren't good with a dropship, that means you show some sign of your scrubliness. Everything that I read in your op tells me you know very little about assault dropships and how they operate. Not that your bad with the camera (though you clearly are) but that you seriously don't know much about flying an assaul dropship in general.
The camera placement is not a design flaw, it allows you to see above and below the ship and a good FOV for your peripherals as well. I don't know if you were around for the camera changes in 1.3,.4,.5,.6 but they were all different aspects that you are currently whining about. 1.4 was great for shooting things with the pilot gun, but you couldn't see the back half of the dropship and would crash a lot because you couldn't see your engines or anything to the side. Of all the cameras I have seen 1.6 is the best (the one we have now)
I would hate to have my gun reticule stick, its nice to have it come up level so if I have to get out I don't have to reposition the camera to fly, as well as turn on my AB as well as maneuver away from the threat etc etc. Its not a problem, in fact it really helps you when you don't fight it. It takes a lot of getting use to but that's just the way dropships are, you have to learn from every death. So yeah get better with the camera scrub, practice untill your f****** eyes bleed.
I'm sorry you don't want to aim but its something you have to do, that's where the skill comes in. I fly with gunners so a lot of my time is spent flying, not shooting, and the only time I really ever shoot is on a hard target like an installation or a tank that requires the extra dps. Otherwise my gunners can kill infantry 100x faster than I can and can hit more accurately too, wasting less ammo and reducing the time the dropship is exposed. Furthermore I can do orbits with skilled gunners so I don't have to stay still to engage targets. When I have two gunners we can kill a tank in a single strafe run, even in the redline. Some people call this teamwork.
I can understand your frustration, sh-íts tough man. Dropships have never been easy and never will be. The camera has already gone through changes and we found this is the best option.
When did you start flying assault dropships?
